Early Black Friday Deals: Sweet as Pie

Thanksgiving is near and and we’ll be enjoying proper holiday gatherings of friends and family for the first time in a long time. My goodness, I’ve missed everyone. Of course, there’s lots to plan and I appreciate anything that helps me simplify holiday hosting. Walmart+ is a big help during the holidays. I’ve written before about how convenient it is to have unlimited free delivery. (Min. $35 order. Some restrictions apply.) Me: I’m ordering one of those Patti LaBelle pies to tide us over until Thanksgiving. But I’m also getting ingredients for making my own pie for the big day, as well as our usual groceries.

Another major benefit of Walmart+ membership is early access to Black Friday online deals from the convenience of your own home. (Note: you need a regular membership to get early access, not a free trial membership. As for the deals: they’re while supplies last.) With your Walmart+ membership, you can access the online Black Friday deals FOUR hours early. That means the night before, which happens to be my favorite time to Black Friday shop.

My best advice is to shop based on what’s currently on your shopping list. For instance, I’m looking for toys for our annual contributions to a holiday toy drive. We also need a new vacuum and I’d rather get it when it’s on sale for a great price. If you take this approach, you’ll feel like you got the most out of Black Friday deals without giving in to impulse buys.

But the shopping list has to start early!

Pumpkin Spice Weather & Decor

The season of coziness is finally here. I’d been hoping to add some fall touches to our reading nook and it was so easy to do this using the Wow and Now page at Walmart as inspiration. It’s full of seasonal decor and unique finds. For fall you’ll find pillows, throws, mugs, craft supplies, storage ideas, and farmhouse inspired decor.

Our white couch-and-a-half got an autumnal update and our bookcase feels so warm and inviting. As homeschoolers, I want our indoor learning space to always feel that way. It’s also nice to change our school room with the seasons, especially since we do that in other ways, like through poems, music, and crafts.

How adorable are these pillows?! The sign post pillow is my favorite. The girls cozied up with books and the pumpkin throw right away. The burlap runners and branch of leaves add some warm texture and color to our bookcase and chalkboard. The family rules poster and metal canister were too cute to pass up.

Storage-wise, I’m loving this sturdy basket. I’m using it to keep the next day’s books and materials handy. At the end of the day, I switch out the books and replace what we’ll use the next day. And look at this beautiful mug; it feels so good in hand and I’ll definitely get much use out of it on chilly fall mornings to come. Check out more decor ideas at Walmart.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas + Our Morning Time Routine

“Mama, can you make waffles tomorrow?” I immediately do a mental checklist of what I need and open up Walmart+ on my phone to add items to my cart.

Breakfast is important to me because our whole family loves it. Seriously, we never skip it. Breakfast is also when we do “morning time.” What is morning time? I’m so glad you asked! We started doing “morning time” last year as part of homeschool. Basically, it’s intentionally starting our day with some loveliness and something to think about. It happens during or immediately after breakfast. Here are some of our morning time options:

A couple poems or rhymes
Music from a composer we’re studying
Picture study of an artist we’re studying

The kids love it. Morning time and breakfast run smoothest when I’m prepared. While our books are always handy, I have to grocery shop every week!

This is why I love our Walmart+ membership. I can get FREE same-day delivery on fresh groceries from our local store ($35 order minimum, restrictions apply.). Everything is high quality. Everything is priced the same as in-store. Best of all, Walmart+ saves me SO much time. Going to the grocery store with two kids, including a toddler, will easily take me an hour and involves car seats and snacks and well, I’m tired just thinking about it. Ordering groceries on Walmart+ takes me about 10 minutes.

Money saved = buy more books. Time saved = read the books.

Anyway! This latest order was all about healthy breakfast plans for the week.

Healthy breakfast ideas:

Whole-wheat waffles with berries
Multigrain toast with sliced peaches and yogurt
Oatmeal (I like using rolled oats) drizzled with peanut butter
Breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs, sliced baby peppers, mushrooms
Fruit, spinach, almond milk smoothies
Fiber-rich cereals like Raisin Bran or Quaker Simply Granola
Banana wheat germ pancakes (so good!)

Homemade Ice Cream

Summer gatherings just got so much more fun.

I’ve been trying to think of hands-on summer fun for my girls, so I checked out the summer kitchen appliances at Walmart Home. There are so many fun appliances to help entertain this summer and enjoy family gatherings: popcorn poppers, slushy drink makers, fancy coffee machines, air fryers. Yum! I kept coming back to this Cuisinart ice cream maker. The fact that it comes in all these cute colors? Pink… I was sold. I got ice cream bowls, pinch bowls, and toppings, all for a great price.

Of course, my girls love ice cream. But the one who loves ice cream the most also happens to be sensitive to dairy, which is no fun when choices are limited. So I knew she’d be the most excited.

When they saw the ice cream bar all laid out… I. Underestimated. The. Excitement.

Making ice cream at home sounds like a lot of work but not with this ice cream maker. Just freeze the inner metal bowl overnight. Blend your ice cream ingredients. Pour into the ice cream maker while it’s turning and let it churn for about 15-20 minutes. It’s lovely soft-serve consistency at that point, though you can freeze it for another 1-2 hours if you’d like.

This super creamy non-dairy strawberry ice cream was loved by all. Honestly, a cute array of toppings will take you far! So be sure to pick up some pinch bowls because these are the best size. Non dairy fam: definitely try some cashew butter to amp up the creaminess of non-dairy ice cream. We’re going to try this peanut butter chocolate ice cream recipe next.
