In years past I’ve avoided wearing pink on February 14 because it seemed too literal. But when I found this perfect pink dress, I decided to put together a study in blush tones. I’m wearing this faux-suede dress from Eloquii. The color is not as pale as it looks on the website though, it’s rosier like in the photos here. Finished with a drop of glossy red. Overall, sweet but not saccharine.

These sunglasses remind me of those Mickey and Minnie Mouse heart-shaped lollipops that came attached to Valentine’s Day grams we’d send each other back in elementary school. (Does anyone remember those?!) Writing cards for your classmates and stuffing them into envelopes with candy was the BEST. Happy Valentine’s Day.

When my soul needs some replenishing, I go to the desert. I know it sounds counter-intuitive. What does an arid place have to give? Well, quite a bit. I’m inspired by the things that grow in the desert. Keep your roses; I want desert blooms and cactus. They’re my personal symbol of 2015 because this year I was able to blossom in the midst of harsh conditions. I started the year still deep in grief over personal loss. I had zero feelings about the new year. I had nothing to celebrate.

But in the spring, everything changed. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, I know it might seem like I started practicing yoga out of the blue. It came into my life randomly, but it was such a gift. It gave me one of the biggest realizations of my life: I’m not just my mind existing through time and space. I’m also my body and my spirit. All three need nourishing. That’s what I’ve been doing.

I ended up having one of the best years of my life.

Here’s to a year of healing. Here’s to finding a door and walking through it.

Here’s to all the desert flowers.

I think my favorite iteration of the sporty trend might be the football jersey dress, à la Beyonce.

But, as with any trend, it’s important to find a version that fits your own style. That’s why I wanted something a little softer—and not too literal. I found this dress in the plus-size section of Forever 21 and it’s everything I wanted. I hadn’t shopped there in a long time and thought perhaps I’d outgrown the store (eek!) but then I saw their fall fashion lineup. I tried on so many cute things! I left the store with this and one other piece, but I will definitely go back to scope out the incoming styles.

This dress isn’t online (yet?) but I’ll keep an eye on the site and update this post. I happened to find this at the Ontario Mills location in Southern California, which has a fantastic plus section and is worth visiting if you’re ever in the area.

Despite my love of fall fashion, it’s been a hot week in California. I’m still wearing sandals. But these are suede, so I’m calling them my fall transition sandals. I wore this on a date night with my husband.

Is there a more elegant daytime dress than the sheath? I think not. The silhouette fits close to the body, but it’s relaxed enough that you can move easily through your day. When I wear one, I prefer to go light on accessories so that the dress can make a simple, strong statement. How gorgeous is this pink and raspberry sheath? The draping almost makes it look like it’s two pieces — which I love. Add a contrasting blazer and suddenly you have a beautiful suit.
