I’m the kind of person who rolls her eyes when people say things like “new year, new me!” but secretly I wish I were really like those people who can plan major life changes and stick to them.

“John, let’s move to Paris!”

You get the picture. I realize I might not always be able to make big changes, but I can definitely make small ones. One such change I know I can make is staying hydrated through the day. It’s not unusual for me to get a midday headache and when that happens, it derails the rest of my day. Only recently did I realize my headaches might be a sign of moderate dehydration. When I read about this product called DripDrop, everything clicked.

I wanted to test it on one of my hectic, active days. I found it in the baby aisle at CVS. It’s an electrolyte powder you mix into water and they say it will rehydrate you faster than their competitors. I thought that sounded compelling, but decided to evaluate it solely on how it made me feel. Before tying it, I read up on it and learned it’s used in diverse ways: humanitarian efforts, by people who do strenuous exercise, by people nursing hangovers, and by people like me who might be experiencing moderate dehydration from time to time.

So here’s how the day went. I woke up earlier than usual and went to mommy-and-me class with Julia, which generally makes for a full day on top of errands and work. Our day had a beautiful start—we saw a flock of parrots up close outside the classroom. Julia saw them and said, “BIRDS!”

In class, Julia made Valentine’s Day crafts, we painted, we played, we ran up and down the park, left to do some errands, and headed home. I’m trying to be more active because Julia is incredibly active and I have to keep up with her. That means going on walks and the occasional run.

Now, this is about the time I’d feel ready for a nap (or a martini, two olives) but on this day I opened a packet of DripDrop after running in the park, poured it into my bottle, and shook. The berry flavor is light. I didn’t have a headache, didn’t need a nap, felt clear-minded (which is so important to me) and was able to power through the rest of my day. The DripDrop box says it’s suitable for kids who are at least one year old, which matters to me as a mom because when kids get sick, they can get dehydrated fast. I’ll be keeping a box in our medicine cabinet and a packet in my purse.
