Walking on Your Own Catwalk

I’ve wanted a pair of high waisted jeans for the longest time. So happy I have this pair from City Chic. I love the panels around the waist, the column of buttons, and how the jeans hug the body. I paired mine with a button up because I saw Kim Kardashian wear a pair of high waist jeans like this.

I definitely think plus sizes can look great in this style, don’t let anyone tell you you can’t wear something because of your size. Life is short, have as much fun with fashion as you want! I didn’t wear shapewear with these because I don’t find shapewear comfortable. And it’s hard to feel sexy if I’m not comfortable. So forget the spanx.

I used to feel shy wearing certain things when going out by myself. This is funny, but my tip is to go out with your ipod and play something that makes you feel like you’re walking on your own catwalk. Some of my favorites are Gwen Stefani’s “Luxurious” and Beyonce’s “Diva” or “Kitty Kat.”

Top: New Look, Jeans: City Chic, Shoes: Pour La Victoire, Bracelet: Fennimas Jewelry

I wanted to let my American readers know that City Chic recently launched its US site. I’ve shopped there before and LOVE their jeans. They have some cute stuff on the site, go see! Did you know City Chic is going to participate in the Australian Fashion Week this year? If their past performance there is any indication of what’s coming, I’m excited! Can’t wait to see the images and wish I were there.

Thank you to Danielle, who blogs at DaniMezza & City Chic’s blog, for letting me know about these jeans. And many thanks to City Chic for sending them to me. Thanks for reading. <3

p.s. for those who asked about sizing, i have other cc jeans and thought the high waisted style ran a little bit smaller. if you are in between sizes, think about sizing-up.

Blush
I love today’s outfit but I only had enough time to snap a few pictures outside my home. Hope you don’t mind these. I fell in love with this skirt when my friend Nicolette posted it and looked gorgeous in it. I had to have it! Love these colors together.

Below you’ll also find a video I made! I haven’t made one in a long time but had some extra time tonight and wanted to share. Hope you like it. Let me know what you think!

A Study in Contrasts
Everything about this outfit was about contrasts of texture. Tulle, leather, lace, jersey—each tending toward soft or structured. This Rodarte for Target dress is dainty but the blazer and boots aren’t so delicate.

I guess this look is sort of 90s-dress-with-combat-boots, but you can lift the chicness of the outfit by incorporating some stylish elements: a platform boot, a tuxedo cut blazer, a slim belt, & some sparkly accessories. What do you think?

Dress: Target, Blazer & Belt: Asos, Boots: Jeffrey Campbell, Necklace: Anthro

Unfortunately, this dress is no longer available (unless you try ebay) but if you want to recreate the look, I think this lace dress by Lucie Lu looks pretty similar.

New Additions to my Closet
Here are my first purchases of the new year. I’m trying to be really picky about my shopping so I haven’t bought anything this month until now. I definitely recommend a no-buy challenge to people wanting to use their wardrobes more creatively. I also think it makes adding something new to your closet that much more fun.

My birthday is in two weeks (yay) so this is an exception! I decided to get a pretty dress, a sparkly sweater, a classic denim jacket, and a pair of pink pants.

Dress: Dorothy Perkins, Sweater: Asos, Jacket: River Island, Pants: Dorothy Perkins

P.s. Outfit post this weekend!

Pink Lips & Gold Buttons
Hello again! Thank you for all the lovely messages from people wanting me to continue blogging. I’ve missed it and missed all of you too! I definitely want to keep writing and plan to make different kinds of posts (e.g. beauty, musings) in between outfit posts.

I am in love with my new cape and its darling gold buttons. Worn over jeans and a white tee for an easy chic look. The cape is from River Island, a UK brand I purchased through asos.com. The quality is great and I love the brand, presently available up to size UK18.

Makeup: Chantecaille tinted moisturizer, MAC Strayin lipstick, MAC blacktrack fluidline liner, MAC grand duo blush, Diorshow blackout mascara.

Cape: asos, Top: asos, Jeans: Torrid, Shoes: Miu Miu

Thank you to all my readers! Love you.

Been an Awful Good Girl
I remember being a young girl and wishing for so many things that were beyond my reach at the time. Life has changed so much and I guess I could now buy myself my own gifts. (But, what fun is that?) There is still something magical about this season! Take a look at my wish list this year—

The things I’m wishing for are perhaps shinier and prettier than I could have foreseen years ago. But, per Eartha Kitt’s Santa Baby, “Think of all the fun I’ve missed / Think of all the fellas that I haven’t kissed / Next year I could be just as good / If you’d check off my Christmas list…”

1. Cocoa Bella chocolates: I love this San Francisco shop and their artisan chocolates.

2. Ipad: As a blogger, I would LOVE to be able to read blogs and magazines on this.

3. Louboutin heels: so sexy yet at such a comfortable height. Must pair w/ peg pants!

4. Hanky Panky thongs: the best thongs ever in a range of colors. Def recommend these.

5. Chanel: Dragon is the best red lip, Bel Air glossimer dreamy, & blue polish so sweet.

6. Tom Ford cat eye sunglasses: a chic way to look mysterious and sexy next summer.

7. Seda France and Diptyque candles: in glorious Japanese Quince and Feu de Bois.

8. Louboutin velvet lace ups: beautiful purple, so perfect for this season & the next.

What’s on your wish list this year? xx

Peg Pants
I love soft shades and cute pants so when I saw these peg pants from ASOS curve, I knew I had to have them. Note: these run large compared to other pants I’ve tried from them. I sized down and they were still loose around my waist. Asos Curve recently added several more cute pants to their range so check them out!

I think this pinkish-brown shade looks so good against this burgundy button up. I love wearing these pants because they are comfortable—a good alternative to wearing jeans. I’m trying to hunt down a skinny brown belt to wear with these in the future. What do you think? Are you wearing peg pants this season? xx

It’s around this season that many people reflect on the year thus far. I have so many reasons to be thankful, one being the community of people that I have come to know through my blog. Thank you to everyone who, even when posts are scarce, continue to support me and my blog!

Next, I wanted to share this cute blog feature. It always makes me happy to know the blog is reaching people in places I never imagined. Here, the blog featured on Style Italia. I love Beth Ditto and hope I can meet her some day. Thanks for reading, ciao!

I love City Chic
Hello everyone! I have an upcoming outfit post but before that I wanted to make a short post to announce that Australian retailer City Chic has launched its US site. You may remember that Fluvia Lacerda was a model for one of their recent campaigns, which you can view at Plus Model Magazine.

I have a couple items from City Chic that I love and wear all the time. Some previous outfit posts highlight their clothing, like this one. In terms of sizing, I’ve based myself off their size guide and found it to be accurate. Anyway, here are my favorite items on the site right now. I wasn’t planning on shopping this weekend but these are making me want to reconsider! I hope they add more items soon.

With the launch of the US site, City Chic is offering free shipping to US customers, free returns, and a 30% discount, with code CR30FS.

Hocus Pocus
This Fall I want to be wrapped in thick knits and rich colors. Remember the movie Hocus Pocus? My favorite Halloween movie! I always loved the witches’ clothing and I think this knit cape from Evans gives off a chic witchy vibe. Perfect for October. A cape goes great with a chunky boot, like these by Jeffrey Campbell. Underneath I’m wearing a flowy top and my Asos jeggings. So comfortable, but still stylish.

If you are a good witch I would suggest sticking to a bright lip. I recently bought Rock & Republic blush and I’m so impressed by the quality. So pigmented, I def recommend them. In these photos I’m wearing a bright coral shade called “Immoral” and my lipstick is MAC “Moxie.” I like bright lips and cheeks during Fall because the day feels so grey otherwise. I prefer liner + mascara to eyeshadow for daytime.

Thanks for reading. Love you all!

Fall Inspiration and Shopping List
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for fashion. This year I’m focusing on adding specific garments to my wardrobe from four categories. While the looks I selected come from straight-size designers, I still think they are good sources of inspiration for women of any size. The task, as always, is to find things in our size that make us feel fabulous. I’ve also included six items that I’m definitely adding to my closet.

1. Leopard. This can be bold or subtle, but it always seems to impart a confident sexiness. I’m very picky about leopard print, but when you find a good print, it can be so good. Don’t be afraid of this print! I like how it can shine when it’s just a detail on a shoe or bag and the wow-factor of wearing more.

2. Chic pants. I’m a jean lover but this fall I prefer trousers. Two styles I love: cigarette cut (think Audrey) and slouch (think Sakina)—a chic way to stay comfortable this season. I found some cute styles at Lane Bryant but I’m always looking for more! I love the fact that the whole look changes depending on proportion and which top you select. Go from day to night by just adding heels. Love!

3. Soft Tans. For me, this is the updated and more beautiful version of the military trend, the color palette being a bit softened but retaining many of the same shapes. Isn’t tan so gorgeous when paired with pale pink? Definitely love the look of mixing different shades of tan too. A must-have color this fall.

4. Fur and Drama. This is all about standing out. There are many faux-fur options out there that do not sacrifice style. Likewise, there are many coat styles that will give you drama, but my favorite is the cape. So sophisticated. This season, I want a cape and an oversized fur jacket—very Sex and the City.

Fall Shopping List

This faux fur jacket Evans is exactly what I want for fur this Fall. It exists in two colors but I prefer the grey. I want to wear it with jeggings and flats but also maybe with a shorter hemline, tights, and booties. This leopard panel basque from Evans is so sexy. When I saw it in person I thought of Dolce & Gabbana dresses that have bras built in. This would be gorgeous peeking out from under a dress or top.

An oversized shirt will be the perfect complement to chic pants. I love this white top from Next UK, a great retailer that offers many (though not all) styles in plus sizes. This season, my go-to colors for the oversized shirt are white, crimson, and pink. And of course, every plus-size blogger seems to want this coat from Evans! Also a good option for those who want to wear only a little fur this fall.

Is that velvet? Well, it’s actually velour but still a gorgeous way to wear this trend. I’m not one for velvet dresses, but this I can do. Will be beautiful paired with different textures. Finally, this sweater is from Asos Curve (and I believe not out just yet) but it’s going to be an easy way to wear tan and keep warm at the same time. Wearing this with dark rise jeggings and leather boots!

That’s all for now! Remember, you don’t have to completely change your wardrobe each season, choose key pieces wisely and you will be very happy with your Fall outfits! Thanks for reading! xo

Sequins & Hearts
Lately I’ve been loving chic trousers. These carrot pants were on sale at Lane Bryant and they’re actually the only LB item I own, but I’m in love with them. I think they look great with this French Connection sequin top too. I usually don’t wear all black but when I do, I enjoy combining different textures.

The Beth Ditto collection at Evans UK launched recently and I bought this sweet cardigan. I remember seeing it at the Fall preview in NYC during the YFF conference. I had made a mental note to buy it. So cute! Also, I’m excited that I was able to wear these suede Miu Miu heels now that the weather is changing. If you love Miu Miu too then I recommend you visit my fellow Miu Miu lover and friend Nicollete’s blog, Nicollete Mason. Her taste is exquisite and her blog has so much fashion eye candy.

I finished this outfit by adding my new cuff bracelet from Fennimas. If I had to describe Rachel’s work in one word it would have to be luxe. Thick gold chains, embellished cuffs, statement necklaces, and sparkly rings, her jewlery always makes me feel fabulous. I recently got a couple pieces that I am so eager to share! I bought a necklace that took my breath away. Cannot wait to show you!

Posts have been scarce the last couple weeks because my non-internet life has kept me busy, but I do have material for new posts! I’ve made a few fashion purchases and I bought some awesome makeup that I want to review. Thanks for reading! xo

My Favorite Shoes
Hi everyone! Still working on my fall fashion post but in the meantime wanted to share some of my all time favorite shoes. I’m sure you know how much I love shoes, so narrowing down a list is difficult. I recently watched a short film where Mr. Louboutin was speaking on the allure of shoes, saying it is a woman that carries her clothing but it is the shoes that carry the woman.

As for upcoming purchases, I have already decided on a pair of black Louboutin simple platform pumps because they are perfect and so versatile. But I do want a fun style too! Tell me your favorite!

These are Tom Ford era Gucci sandals that also came in gorgeous green and gold. I love this iconic heel. The corset back, leather, and gold bamboo make these ultra sexy. I’ve been trying to track these down for years. I just learned of a reputable seller who is offering these (in green) and I have to decide whether I want to get them!

These Louboutin “Carnaval” heels (modeled by Jennifer Lopez) are so fun. I love when a shoe can be dramatic and delicate at the same time. I think this is the perfect example of a shoe that is even more stunning as it walks away from you. Seems to me they are begging to be danced in, don’t you think?

These Louboutin “Very Prive” heels in purple lizard are just exquisite. And so is the bag, but focus on the heels! I’m in love with the deep saturated color and the striking contrast to the red sole. I’ve seen these in real life and they are even better. These were re-released not long ago and I’m dying to get a pair. These are currently on the top of my list.

This pair of Valentino lace heels are like something out of a dream. I imagined they would pair so well with the Alexander Mcqueen gown worn by Kate Moss in this amazing clip. Angelic and haunting, just like these shoes. Perfect elegant heels. Something magical about these!

Finally, Louboutin Fifi in “Volcano strass.” These heels are covered in multicolored crystals and sparkle SO MUCH in light. They also seem to change color as you walk. I love almost all the strass heels, my favorites being aurora (sparkly silver Cinderella-worthy shoes) and this volcano shade. They make my heart flutter. It is however difficult to rationalize their very high cost (over $3K) even for a shoe lover!

Summer Love
I loved this summer so much and I’m sad it’s over. Had so much fun in New York City, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas! Here are two of my favorite summer looks. My next post will be a fall wishlist!

I feel like the last blogger on earth to blog about tap shorts. These Torrid shorts are so comfortable and so perfect for summer. I love the bright print paired with this “Bardot” top from ASOS. I don’t think I’ve worn shorts that are above-the-knee in years but it felt fabulous on one of the Bay Area’s last hot days.

My next outfit was what I wore to lounge around the pool of the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. I bought three fantastic swimsuits this summer. If you’re around my size I highly recommend suits by La Blanca, they’re excellent quality, chic, and sexy. I personally dislike swimsuits that have skirts attached. Finding swimsuits that are fashionable is difficult but the best I’ve found are definitely La Blanca (for sizes up to 16/18) and Monif C (for sizes 14-24). Love love love this gold chain from Fennimas. Bought it because it reminds of me of a vintage Versace necklace. So fabulous and flashy, perfect for Las Vegas.

Fatshionable in New York
When I told you I was going to the YFF Conference I said I wanted to live out my Sex and the City dreams. I knew I needed an outfit that would make me like a fabulous plus size Carrie Bradshaw. I wanted tulle and sparkle and I think everything came together beautifully. I loved my outfit!

I wore this to the meet & greet event, one of the best events of the weekend. I loved meeting so many blog readers! Thank you so much to everyone who came. It was a night I will never forget!

The skirt was custom made by Ouma Etsy and was even more beautiful in real life. I can’t recommend them enough. One of my best Etsy buys! The style I picked was the hand dyed tea length skirt and the color I chose was a soft blushy tan. The sequined top is from French Connection and the necklace from J.Crew. The clutch is from SimplyBe. Shoes are Louboutin.

I have more pictures than I would be able to post here so I will def make a flickr account for the blog! xo

P.S. I’m about to go to Las Vegas so my next post will be from there!

Summer Rose
The retailers we visited in New York gave us gift bags and in my Evans bag was this cute rose-print scarf. I usually only wear scarfs in cold weather so I was a little unsure how to wear it. Then I watched an episode of Sex and the City where Carrie was wearing a scarf as a top—I gave it a try!

I just folded the scarf into a triangle and tied it behind my back. You could wear a bandeau top under the scarf if you want more coverage. One tip: fold the scarf over the back of the bra so as to prevent the bra from peeking out. I added a denim jacket once it got a little cooler in the evening.

I know many of us are still reluctant to go out showing our arms or back but trust me when I say that you are most likely the only person who is so focused on them. I wasn’t feeling so well in the weeks before the YFF conference but being around women who were stylish, body positive, and gorgeous completely re-energized me. When I wore the strapless top to the NY rooftop party, that was the first time in a long time that I’d worn something strapless and I felt fabulous!

So my suggestions to anyone who is unsure about baring a little more skin: surround yourself with body-positive friends, go do something fun, wear your skin-baring clothing and tell yourself you are beautiful, because you are!

Lately I’ve been more interested in jewelry. I found this green necklace and fell in love. For those of you who may not be too good at accessorizing (like me), I def suggest going for a statement necklaces. They can really bring an outfit together and require little thought. I love ones with big stones, sparkle, or several chains. Will be highlighting some of my favorite necklaces here soon!

YFF Conference 2
The photo shoot we did with Plus Model Magazine was amazing. Special thanks to Maddy from PMM! I’ve never experienced anything like it and it was so much fun to get our hair and makeup done! Pictures are set to come out soon and I will definitely post about it when they are released! For the shoot I wore jeans, a sparkly striped top, a beaded hat, and my Helmut Lang heels.

I went into hair and makeup with an open mind, though I knew I wanted a bright pink lip. Tara Taylor, one of the very talented makeup artists, used an OCC lip tar on my and I looooved it! The color is called “Anime” and I already ordered a tube! It was creamy, non-drying, and lasted for hours!

I was so excited to meet Rachel Fennimore, the designer behind Fennimas Jewelry. I snapped some pictures for you to see what we were able to sample. I loved so many things and splurged on two necklaces, which I will post more about later. I bought the pink feather necklace and the gold multi-chain necklace! I love them so much and Rachel was so sweet and awesome!

After the photo shoot, we went for dinner and drinks with City Chic at Cafeteria. All I can say is I looove Aussies, they are so much fun! Here I am seated next to Phil, the CEO of City Chic. Below you can see Lucy, a designer for the brand, as well as well as the beautful Fluvia Lacerda. And of course, the lovely Gabi, Maddy, Sakina, Hayley, and Xtina!

After dinner we went to the very luxurious Gansevoort for a rooftop party. Of course, since City Chic was there, I wore my favorite City Chic top and my new Fennimas necklace! I danced with the other girls and enjoyed the gorgeous views of New York. Again, we had so much fun—a crazy night I will never forget!

Once again, thank you to all our sponsors for supporting our amazing conference! City Chic, Evans, Faith21, Simply Be, Macys - American Rag, Torrid, ModCloth, Boutique Larrieux, and We Love Colors.

Thanks for reading! Tell me what you think! More photos coming!

I will be posting pictures here but don’t forget to check out the other YFFCON bloggers - Nicolette Mason, Sound Bites, Corazones Rojos, More to Love, Fashion Hayley, Young Fat and Fabulous, Saks in the City, and Musings of a Fatshionista!

Friday was first day in New York and in the morning we met up with Evans representatives for a delicious brunch at Le Caprice on 5th Avenue. Later we went to the Trump Soho hotel to check out a preview of their Fall/Winter collection and get a peek of the upcoming Beth Ditto collection!

I can’t share any pictures of the Beth collection but I can tell you that I loved it and definitely want to buy a couple things! Hopefully you will love it too. The Fall collection is set to start being available toward the end of August. I tried on some of my favorite pieces!

More pictures coming!

Princess shoes
It’s been a while since we had a shoe post! I love heels and have a lot of fun in them, but contrary to what a lot of people believe, I don’t wear heels every day. I am however, really picky about flats. Just because they’re flats doesn’t mean they don’t have to be just as fabulous as your other shoes.

Today I wanted to share a pair of Pazzion flats that I purchased recently. I think these are only available in a few Asian countries, so if you want to try this brand you have to contact them or try ebay. I paid about $100 for these, which is a great price considering how beautiful they are. Definitely a gorgeous flat. Sparkly and in metallic pink leather. They feel like princess shoes!

What do you think? Where do you buy stylish flats? Comment below!
