In Partnership with Leading Lady
Let’s get this out of the way: this is a SUPER cute yoga look, ok? Probably my all-time favorite and most comfy. But real talk: it’s been a long time since I practiced yoga. Work and life with two kids, one of whom is one-year-old, doesn’t leave much time for me. I desperately need it though. The BEST part of yoga is when you get into the state of flow—it’s the point when all that matters is your body moving through space; your mind quieted. I miss that feeling so much.
You don’t need much to do yoga, but a grippy mat and comfy activewear do help a lot. Here are my essentials + a splurge or two, with emphasis on inclusive sizing:
- Super soft leggings and seamless sports bra from Leading Lady. (Their size range is amazing, seriously check out the band and cup sizes. This sports bra is available through 3x and runs true to the size chart in my opinion. The leggings are the softest I own; they’re the pair I look for when I’m rummaging through my pile of leggings lately. They run a little big so no need to size up.) And because I love a deal: use promo code PINKLIP25 to save 25% at Leading Lady!
- Cozy wrap from Barefoot Dreams; my favorite for staying warm during savasana (the rest period at the end of the yoga set.) Also baby’s favorite for snuggling with mama.
- Arizona soft footbed Birkenstocks. Love these for everything, including getting to/from yoga class. My tip is to get these in the regular width if you have a wide foot, I find many places only stock the narrow version.
- And finally, Liforme yoga mat. It’s pricey but super grippy/stable.
So what did I learn on my first day back at yoga? I. Am. Very. Much. A. Beginner. Again. I don’t have core strength, I’m not as flexible as I used to be, and my warrior pose is shaky.
I used to feel more confident about all these things, so this is a challenge. But I know that if I judge myself harshly I’m more likely to avoid yoga entirely. It’s natural to avoid the things that make us feel bad about ourselves. Instead, I’m choosing to be gentle with myself. In practice, this means not drawing comparisons, remembering it’s all about the journey, and embracing modifications.
So this post is mostly about a starting point. I will provide updates as this new yoga path unfolds!
