This post is brought to you by Kohl’s.
A few weeks ago I was talking about plus size activewear on twitter and plenty of you chimed in about our collective desire for stylish options. The new era of “gym clothes” is ultra-cool and it’s crossed over to everyday wear. I, for one, love this trend. I’ve said before that it’s the best thing to have ever happened to moms, but anyone who wants no-fuss fashion can partake.
How I style an athleisure look suitable for all day
- Keep most of the colors neutral.
- Make sure one of the pieces has an eye-catching detail, cut, or pattern.
- Add cool and/or luxe accessories.
For this look, I pulled pieces from Tek Gear, an activewear line at Kohl’s. It’s online, but was also at my local Kohl’s and I loved that the collection feels consistent across straight and plus-size in terms of materials and design. It’s also performance-focused (e.g. moisture-wicking fabrics, vents, hidden pockets). This level of detail is rare in plus-size. I ended up choosing essentials-with-a-twist, things like angled cuts, contrast panels, darted pockets, and neon zippers. I wore this to an early brunch with my family, the farmers market, and later to run errands around town.

My answer: I’m trying to be active enough to keep up with my daughter. I’m drinking more pressed juice and water. On a more emotional note, I want to be gentler on myself and I’m trying to live every day with more grace.

I decided to really just focus on me this year. I went through a tough break up at the end of 2014 and realized it’s best to take a few steps back and just focus on ME. I found and fell in love with the “U-Jam Fitness” classes at 24 hour and take them at least twice a week, if not more. I also have a workout group with a few girlfriends on Saturday morning where we can hold each other accountable for attending, but also motivate one another along the way. 2015 is off to a great start!

I made a choice earlier this year & am committing to bettering my overall health: physically, mentally, & spiritually. My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer this year & I am more determined than ever to a healthier life because I don’t want to ever experience what she is going through. I gave up meat for Lent this year & have lost 15 lbs with that plus exercising (although I have days that I slack off). My friends and I are thinking about doing group food prep to cut down on the actual prep + grocery costs. I’ve bought a couple pieces from Target & Old Navy, but it would be awesome to win the gift card and get more workout pieces to motivate me even more! Good luck to everyone on their wellness journey 🙂

This year I’m taking care of my mental health. I used to think if I was moving my body and eating healthy things I was fine, but…. That’s not the case. I’m focusing on myself, what I’m thinking, how I’m feeling, how I let things affect me. I’m also highly aware of how I treat myself. I’m learning to be patient with myself and take my good days along with my not so good days. Some things I’m doing for over all health:
Positive affirmations
Loving myself as I am
Keeping an open mind
Writing my feelings down
Walks with my family
Speaking my truth& honesty
Those are just a few. Thanks for the giveaway Jay! Luck to all!

I’m focusing on my wellness this year by pushing myself physically. Last year I did my first ever triathlon, the IronGirl and also participated in a charitable 52 mile bike ride for Lukemia and Lymphoma awareness. This year I’m stepping out and signed up for my first Olympic distance triathlon, 1mi swim/24mi ride/6mi run. Started my training back in December and am now in countdown mode for the big day in June. Enjoying breaking my own boundaries!!

I’ve decided to focus on my mental and emotional health through Zumba, gym time, coffee dates with my mom, and much needed sleep. I’m currently a graduate student so it’s become so easy to forget to sleep, forget to eat, or overeat. Zumba helps me build up my confidence ( I cannot dance!) and gives me an avenue to release the stress from school and work. Coffee dates allow me to stat humble and stay close to my mom. She comes to Zumba with me, too! She’s such a pro.

I have a workout plan at my gym and I go kickboxing once a week. A great way to get rid of stress!

I’m trying to be more active and drink lots of water. I’m an artist, so I spent most of my work time sitting down painting or drawing. I try to get up often to do some kind of physical activity. I’m also making it a point to spend more time with the positive, supportive people in my life, and avoid those who are negative and unsupportive.
Xenia says
I need more me moments. Self care for my mental health is high priority right now but I’m also committing to drinking more water!
Erica says
This year I’ve made a commitment to also drink more cold pressed juices, water and cooking more meals at home. Although I was injured for a while and could not gym, I’m hopping back into yoga and cycling

This year I’ll do less planning and more doing: I’m committed to clean(er) eating, more activity & movement (this year, after too many years of inactivity I completed my first 1/2 marathon last month and my friends and family have joined me in signing up for three 5Ks over the next 3 months), more fun, less stressing, slowing down and enjoying stolen quiet moments, more dates with my love, more family time, more warm baths & mani/pedis, more me time… and enjoying all the joys life offers!
Mia Jackson says
I have been taking naps for rest and relaxation and eating more tumeric to reduce inflammation.
Carrie says
The most important thing for me is to be mindful. I am paying attention to what I put in my body and how much I move. Being mindful in all areas of my life, not just food, is a humongous undertaking, but worth it.

Love this! I’m always looking for ways to focus on my physical and emotional health and I recently bought a FitBit to begin tracking my activity and sleep. It’s been really eye-opening to see my day-to-day movements and it’s helped me find new reasons to stay active.
Dona says
I set up an exercise schedule that helps me be consistent and enjoy it. I dropped sugar and most processed foods from my diet. It’s working better than counting calories. I don’t try to be perfect and hang out with positive people.

This year I will reach my first weight loss goal of 100 lbs. I began my journey for my health. I wanted to be able to run along with my kids, and I feel like I can finally do that!!!

I’m taking walks with my daughter and drinking a lot more water.

I am looking forward to getting back in a walking routine for spring/summer. Fitbit is a big motivator for steps. I also want to drink more water. I am a teacher and I am always “on”. I sometimes discover that
I realize it is dismissal time and I have not had anything to drink all day. I have a new springy water bottle and I like to add orange or lime oils for a delicious twist. I love the Kohl’s outfit you chose! I will be looking for the vest for sure.

I’m focusing on wellness by mainly following a paleo diet. I started out the year by doing the Whole30. Since finishing that, I plan my the majority of meals to follow those/paleo guidelines. I’ve also started going to Zumba classes. I’ve had DVDs for a few years, but I’ve finally felt comfortable enough to go to classes as well.
G Yang says
I’ve decided to focus on being healthy by eating more fruits and vegetables. I’ve also started taking the stairs at work rather than the elevator.
Jessica says
I’m focused on my wellness by not focusing so much on numbers. I stopped weighing myself and measuring myself and stopped counting calories….by now I have an idea of what is nourishing and what isn’t. I’m trying to listen to my body more, and embrace having fun. I know I feel happier and more content once I stopped worrying about not being skinny!
HS says
I am enjoying Pilates to stay fit and eating light and healthy.

I’m accustomed to being the sacrificial lamb in many of my relationships, and this year I’m really challenging myself to take back my power and focus on me. Wellness for me not only means exercising and eating healthy, but figuring out what truly makes me happy and getting back what I put into my relationships with friends/family. It’s so easy to focus on a healthy body, but we forget the importance of a healthy mind as well. I’m picking up old hobbies like dancing and yoga, and trying to discover some new creative outlets 🙂

On New year’s eve, I ended up in the hospital having gallbladder surgery. I have pretty much changed my life. I eat better, am starting to exercise and am trying to make super choices. As a result, I am slowly losing weight too!
Sheri Kenon says
I am simplifying things in my life and deciding to lose weight in the healthiest way possible for myself. I am watching my portion size and cutting back on carbs. I still have them but in moderation. I eat three meals a day and three snacks. I drink more water and incorporate more fruits and vegetables in my diet. In terms of exercise I want to move more and heal my left knee. Yoga is the best exercise for me because it increases flexibility in my knee and relieves stress.
Tiffaney Hackley says
We now walk one way to or from school, also have made twice a week family fitness night. So we go walk go t park etc.

Love your blog. I eat ketogenically as that is the only way I can keep my weight down from being obese. I’ve dealt with Cushing’s Disease most of my life, but had a “cure” of having adrenal glands removed in 2010. I lost weight after that, from a very obese state to where i am now, pleasingly plump. I am happy with myself, but I feel the healthiest eating ketogenically. I am much more energetic and feel so good.
I avoid processed food and anything with wheat or grains. There are so many good, easy to fix recipes on the ‘net now, it is easy to eat this way.
Thank you for sharing your life and ideas with us!

i am focusing on my health this year in baby steps. Walking each day and competing the 10 minute trainer program each day. I even bought a scale, which I scowl at each morning.

This year, I have eliminated sugar and gluten from my diet and added exercise. This is important because I was diagnosed with celiac and early stages of type 2 diabetes. I have taken control of my health, because I want to live a beautiful, meaningful life. This year, I choose me…I choose health!
Susan Christy says
Drinking more water, eating less sugar, walking every day unless it’s below zero or over 100 degrees!

I am focusing on radical self acceptance and eating, moving and acting like I love myself!
