As a child, when I saw Sara Crewe in the film “A Little Princess,” I knew I had found a style icon. The story was magical and the girl’s wardrobe was mostly exquisite. As a young girl living in a world quite different from the one in which I live now, I was moved by Sara saying, “I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young. They’re still princesses. All of us.”
When I came across this coat at Dorothy Perkins I remembered this quote, the film, and its lush music. (For those who remember “Kindle my heart.”) For me, clothing can be so much more than fabric and thread; it can transport you to another time or mood.
When I wear this coat I feel like a princess.
